My Summer Road Trip

I stopped at a really neat gas station in Wawa. I drove INTO Wawa because it was kinda foggy and I thought the gas stations must be up the side road. If I'd continued 400 metres into the fog, I would have found gas stations right on the highway but it's fortunate I couldn't see them ahead...
The short detour allowed me to visit part of Wawa, a really cool place. The ESSO station was also a general store with really neat decor.
The store had its own Canada Goose (one of MANY of these goose statues along the local road) and...
... it had his and her outhouses which contained actual flusing toilets... Psych!
This moose is on the loose! Hey! That's why David and Ivan said they were held up on the highway. They saw a real LIVE one. Wonder if they took a picture. If they did, I hope they send me a copy of the pic!
Now you're thinking: "Barb was exaggerating about the fog." Although things were quite clear when you were right in front of them, things across the street (like this goose adorning a local motel) were barely visible. I wondered if I'd have trouble seeing back out on the highway.
Not to worry... Ten seconds out of Wawa, the fog disappeared (for a while) off the road. Nice... it allowed me to see this...
... as I rode forward I thought, "am I going to ride right into the water?"
In a matter of speaking, I DID ride right (in)to the water. There was a lookout around a bend with a view of the lake and the cliff. At the lookout I met Tessa...
... and her buddy (I'm sorry, the name escapes me). I was reminded of my Lulu Lemonade back hom being cared for by my friend, Ann.
OH! The dogs weren't the only attraction. There was a really nice view from the beach.
T'was called "Old Woman Bay"... maybe because the rock looks like the profile of an old woman??
Old Woman Bay
My final stop before Sault Ste. Marie was at a scenic lookout.
Again, the views of the lake were awesome.
Typical of the area, you see birds on bare rocks away from all of us (people). Perhaps they sit there to "chat" before diving for dinner.
In the early evening, I finally made it to "The Soo". I rode across the big bridge from Canada to the USA.
The bridge view is SO fantastic. It's too bad there isn't a place that you could pull off for a quick minute to enjoy the view from WAAAAY above (and take a few pix). Not something which would be viable on an International Bridge though...
On the way downtown (US side) to my hotel, I saw this looooooooooooooong boat go by under the bridge.
Yes. Looooooong. See the front way out ahead?? And the back hasn't come by yet.
Oh yeah. Here it is!
My motel was certainly situated in a great spot. Beside a neat church and the Tower of Knowledge.
One block south you're at the river and the US Coast Guard station.
I wonder if these Canadian visitors ever get in trouble for overstaying their welcome?
Wooden wall marking Fort Brady's location.
A sacred Aboriginal burial ground
A house too big and pretty to actually live in??
A corner store
The county courthouse
The back side of my motel's block
AND... cuty hall!
It had been a long day but what a great road with such wonderul sites along the way!
