San Antonio, Texas

Still More Time

I STILL had lots of time left so I thought, what the heck, why not brave downtown and see the Alamo?
I found a parking lot right off the freeway and as it would happen, it was only a block and a half walk to the Alamo. The first thing I saw was the fountain outside the stone fence.

It turns out I had come in by the "back entrance" but I'm glad I did because it's possible I would have missed the gardens, the well and the plaque which dedicates the site to those who died at the Alamo.

All the buildings LOOK old but this information center/museum was built in the 1900's, I think 1936.

I'm not sure whether this well was part of the original Alamo, but it sure looked old!

These tourists were standing by a part of the original structure... one of the outside walls/battlements.

I learned all this information from an Alamo ranger originally from Nebraska but relocated to Texas after his divorce. He's here in front of the mission which actually very beautiful.

This is a view of the battlement wall from the outside looking towards a newer San Antonio.
